Not just happiness. Bliss, sheer bliss. That’s what Paul McCartney and his awesome band gave us all in his two sold out shows at River Plate’s Monumental stadium last weekend. It’s the third time I’ve seen him in Argentina, but this one was by far the very best. Paul isn’t 82 years old but 82 years YOUNG. Younger than ever, fit as a fiddle, his voice intact, lively, warm, funny, cool, talkative (I love his Spanglish). He stayed on stage for almost three hours running, playing different instruments, singing old hits and new songs. In the audience, at least four generations of Argentine fans: grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, thousands and thousands of Beatlemaniacs dancing, cheering, singing along, sobbing with genuine emotion. Music joining us all – a true miracle in this divided society; everyone sharing a joy beyond words. I grew up listening to the Liverpool guys, learnt English with them, cried when John was murdered and when George died of cancer. That’s why we are all so grateful and responsive every time Paul comes. Awesome “mise en scène” too: lighting, mapping, fireworks, videos, special effects, a hypnotic show impeccably staged and organised. And the planes flying over the field added a touch of magic to Paul’s unforgettable ‘Got Back’ concert.

¡Gracias totales!
