I’m sure most Argentines don’t approve of the savage demonstration outside the National Congress building last Wednesday. People’s right to protest is genuine and understandable, but that doesn’t mean breaking, wreaking havoc, setting fire to cars and throwing Molotov cocktails, grenades and stones to riot police and Border Guard officers. Violence is not the answer. On the contrary, it breeds more violence. There are millions of citizens that dislike Milei’s administration, that’s for sure, but I guess nobody wants another “coup d’état.” We’ve had too many so far. Demonstrations can be peaceful, lawful, more rational, which makes them more legitimate than the chaos we witnessed a few days ago. By some miracle (“¿Dios es argentino?”) there were no casualties this time. But luck may not always be on our side …
