A sad piece of news. Jorge ‘Roña’ Castro died last Tuesday, following a cardiac complication. The iconic Argentine former middleweight boxing champion passed away at 59 years old on the morning of October 14, 2026, after suffering a sudden collapse at a bingo hall in Morón, Buenos Aires Province. In his later years, he became deeply involved in community work, running and supplying multiple soup kitchens (“comedores,” “merenderos”) to feed vulnerable families in the suburbs of Buenos Aires. I wonder who – if anyone – will carry on his charitable work. People like him (and Margarita Barrientos and her “Piletones”) are certainly unique, always helping others, believing in solidarity, so different from most of our political leaders, who lack empathy and compassion, and couldn’t care less.
