«The Wizard of Oz» (1939) is an awesome movie, starring iconic Judy Garland, based on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Today, we can all enjoy Marisé Monteiro’s version of this timeless story at the magnificent Teatro Nacional Cervantes (Libertad 815, CABA), on Saturdays and Sundays at 2.30pm. Directed by Sebastián Irigo, with Albana Fuentes as Dorothy, featuring an ensemble cast of versatile talented actresses, actors, dancers and live musicians, “El Mago de Oz” reminds us again and again that the answers we are seeking outside are already within ourselves. No need to travel far away searching for happiness. Dorothy’s travel mates, The Scarecrow, The Tin Man and The Lion, end up discovering that they already possess the brain, the heart and the courage they’ve been looking for. And Dorothy realises that there’s no place like home, her Kansas home, and her loved ones. There’s no such thing as a magical saviour. “El Mago de Oz”: a family play worth seeing and a theatre worth visiting.
