“We don’t hate journalists enough”, said Javier Milei recently. Critical journalists and reporters are described by him as the “new caste.” They are “the enemy” in his eyes. I find it hard to link the President’s constant hateful attack on the press with “The Forces of Heaven” he advocates. Is it Heaven or Hell his source of inspiration? If he thinks the media is lying about his administration, can’t he prove them wrong in a civilized way? Why does he waste so much time and energy harassing the press? On the same line, Economy Minister Luis ‘Toto’ Caputo claimed this week that journalism “is a profession on the verge of extinction.” I’d rather say that politics is a profession on the verge of extinction (worldwide), since it has disappointed, cheated and impoverished us, Argentines, for decades and decades. We don’t trust politicians while our President doesn’t trust journalists. A matter of choice. There’s no accounting for tastes, is there?
