I’m afraid there’s something worse, much worse than our recurrent economic crises in Argentina. Somehow, we’ve been able to overcome many (“Rodrigazo”, “corralito”, 2001, inflation, among many others). But our internal debt is much deeper than our external one. By that I mean our socio cultural decline, the social disintegration we are currently witnessing. Everything seems to be falling apart. Poverty is not only lack of money, unemployment, hunger, homelessness. It’s also lack of values, apathy, anarchism, lawlessness, value erosion, loss of “joie de vivre”, not being able to make projects, to dream of a better future. So many young adults who don’t complete secondary school education. And many of those who do, are unable to understand a text. Nor are they prepared to enter the job market. Argentina used to have the best education system in Latin America. We were so proud of that. Gone with the wind. Or rather, tragic consequence of lousy administrations. Sigh …
