Some of the oaths of office of our law-makers at Congress sounded outrageous. Far from the standard parliamentary oath, several left-wing elected officials swore on behalf of “the boys and girls massacred in Gaza,” or “for an end to the Zionist genocide and a free Palestine,” or supporting dictator Nicolás Maduro thus: “Yankees out of Venezuela.” Why such foreign-policy slogans? Shouldn’t they swear for Argentina, instead? Isn’t there an established protocol? They needn’t invoke God if they choose not to, but they must swear to respect our Constitution. That’s it. The rest is a shameful circus.
