We have a saying in Spanish: “La mona, aunque se vista de seda, mona queda”. Its equivalent in English: “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear”. Along the same line: “The same dog with a different collar”. I would apply both to the Peronist and Kirchnerist “new” coalition political party: “Unión por la Patria” (Union for the Homeland). “We unite to recover economic independence and for the development of a Federal Argentina”, they’ve stated, as if they hadn’t been in office for the last 20 years. Their absolute lack of self-criticism is appalling. A year ago (March 2022), President Alberto Fernández declared “a war on inflation”. Only last Wednesday he admitted “we can’t live with 100 percent inflation”. Mr President: who’s to blame for such a rate? You? Your Economy Minister, Sergio Massa, the one who still hopes to be blessed by Cristina Fernández de Kirchner as a presidential candidate? To wrap up with another saying: The eyes are useless when the mind is blind. Sigh …
