
Fortunately, the “Argentina with Cristina” march last Wednesday was a peaceful one. No casualties. “We will return with more wisdom”, she told the crowd in an audio message. Who’s “we”, I wonder. Cristina herself? Peronists? Kirchnerites? All of them? Will there be a renewal? Any new, younger leaders ahead? I believe Cristina’s address is likely to become a sort of shrine like Gauchito Gil’s, Rodrigo’s, “La Difunta” Correa’s or Gilda’s – always packed with worshippers, followers and even tourists, to the detriment of those poor neighbours, who are forced to put up with that invasion of their privacy. Not fair. Can’t she serve her house arrest in her Calafate residence, her “place in the world”? She seems to enjoy quite a lot of privileges, in spite of her six-year sentence for corruption. She can keep her mobile phone, receive visitors and even do some streaming. Not so bad. Better still if she can keep her audience whenever she is allowed to go on to her balcony, Evita mode.
