President Javier Milei’s government has announced it will change the name of the Centro Cultural Kirchner (Kirchner Cultural Centre, CCK) in Buenos Aires. I think it’s a good idea. Truth to tell, politicians have disappointed us for over 70 years now; therefore I wouldn’t “honour” any of them. Instead, I’d suggest a couple of names of Argentine citizens whose legacy is absolutely unquestionable: René Favaloro (1923–2000), cardiac surgeon and educator, best known for his pioneering work on coronary artery bypass surgery using the great saphenous vein; María Elena Walsh (1930 – 2011), poet, novelist, musician, playwright, writer and composer, mainly known for her songs and books for children. Or else, why not go back to its original “neutral” name? Buenos Aires Central Post Office. Besides, on second thoughts, there are so many other crucial, urgent issues to deal with, Mr President…
